Milestones are proposed, nominated, and sponsored by an IEEE Organizational Unit. After recommendation by the IEEE History Committee and approval by the IEEE Board of Directors, a bronze plaque commemorating the achievement is placed at an appropriate site with an accompanying dedication ceremony.
